Resource PemPal


Resource PemPal is a nutritional supplement for elderly people suffering from protein-energy malnutrition (PEM). Japan's market for such health products is growing as the population ages. While many of Nestlé's competitors emphasized the functionality of their products, few thought to promote functionality plus taste. The design we created was designed to differentiate PemPal from the competition by getting across a major selling point: it actually tastes good.

We used color to express the flavors in the most direct and simple way, with yellow for banana, pink for strawberry, and so on. We also changed the main logo from English to katakana script, as the elderly target audience always feels more at home with Japanese. The logotype sits on a background shaped like a smiling open mouth. This memorable new brandmark symbolizes the great taste of PemPal.
