Infiniti is Nissan's luxury automotive brand. Nissan unveiled the Infiniti Etherea concept car at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. A compact luxury model, it previewed what a future entry-level Infiniti could look like.

Blending the best of the sedan, coupe and hatchback, the Etherea proposes a new kind of luxury for the younger buyer. The 4.4-meter body is relatively compact, but the spacious interior comfortably seats four. The sculptural, dynamic body is a modern reinterpretation of Japanese traditional craftsmanship and aesthetics.

Creative Response
The brief was to create an identity that expressed 'luxurious, powerful, bold, daring' (the brand values of Infiniti), while fitting with the name 'Essence' (Infiniti's 2009 concept) and suggesting the superior environmental performance of the hybrid powertrain.

Derived from 'Ethereal' (meaning 'spiritual,' 'other worldly,' 'highly refined'), the name 'Etherea' deftly encapsulates the upscale values of the Infiniti brand. Note how the initial 'E' creates a direct link to the Essence concept. The word 'ether' (as in 'rarefied stratum of clean air at the edge of the atmosphere') also hints at the clean credentials of hybrid technology.
