Pokka Sapporo Food & Beverage

Alongside Kirin and Asahi, Sapporo ranks as one of Japan's big three beer makers. It is part of the Sapporo Group, a holding company focused on alcoholic beverages, but with interests in soft drinks, food, restaurants and real estate.

Sapporo already owned around 22% of Pokka, a Nagoya-based soft drink company famous for its canned coffee, when it acquired the remaining shares and made Pokka into a full subsidiary in 2011. Sapporo wanted to beef up its soft drink business in Japan and around Asia, where Pokka had factories and a strong sales network. The merger created a new entity, Pokka Sapporo Food & Beverage Ltd., and Bravis was asked to create the corporate identity for the new firm.

We created an identity composed of the English company name and a Japanese tagline ('Delicious is Here!'). As with any food and drink company, the identity needed to project (1) safety and trustworthiness (2) deliciousness and (3) warmth and friendliness. It also had to communicate commitment and energy in business.

The lozenge-shaped graphic shooting up from between the two names is a metaphor for the great ideas that the two companies will create together. It expresses their passion and their dreams.

The letters of the logotype are thick and slightly rounded. This keeps the 12-letter logo reasonably short relative to its length and looks modern and cheerful.

The result is a logo that can be used on all sorts of applications from product packaging to stationery with a high level of recognizability, regardless of the surrounding colors or materials used.
